MATISSE IN BLUE
The Carter
ST. PAULS, LONDON
The Carter, near St Paul’s Cathedral, is home to BW: Workplace Experts’ 16,500 sq ft headquarters. Designed with Siren Design Group around the theme of ‘celebrating construction’, the workplace reveals materials, structure and craftsmanship.
CURATORIAL APPROACH
The collection was developed in close dialogue with the interior design team, extending the project’s emphasis on materiality, sustainability and integrity. Artists with backgrounds in architecture, design and workplace strategy bring a connection to BW’s industry, creating stories that resonate with employees and visitors.
Fleur Peck’s works respond to the meeting rooms’ colours and finishes, while Daniel Copitch’s artworks animate the café and social spaces. Sculptures by Vic Wright introduce sustainable casting cement, complemented by Dagmar Zvonickova’s work in recycled plastic.
Spanning painting, print, sculpture, light and acoustic art, the collection brings texture, warmth and individuality to the workplace, inviting conversation and reflecting BW’s creative culture.

CURATORIAL APPROACH
Maxim Fomenko’s iconic Matisse in Blue was reimagined through digital design as an animation, projection mapped across a 10-metre wall.
Against a vivid turquoise ground, a portrait emerges through looping ribbons of blue, green, lilac and orange “paint”.
The face appears to melt and reform, while vertical bands of colour soften into elongated drips. This fluid movement gives the painted forms an almost sculptural depth, transforming the wall into a shifting portrait on an architectural scale.
